UPDATE: Pedestrian Dies From Injuries Sustained During Monday Morning Car Crash

UPDATE | A man struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach Monday morning has died from his injuries, authorities said Tuesday.

The victim, identified only as a 78-year-old Long Beach resident pending notification of kin, was struck at about 6:00AM Monday by a 2008 Chevy Equinox when he was crossing eastbound on Long Beach Boulevard mid-block, between Market and Plymouth streets, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

“The Chevy was traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard in the #1 lane from Plymouth Street at the time of the collision, and being driven by a 24-year-old female resident of Hawthorne,” the release stated.

Arriving officers found the pedestrian critically injured and unconscious. Long Beach paramedics transported him to a local hospital.

The driver, who remained at the scene, was questioned and released.

Hospital personnel notified LBPD officials on Tuesday, April 5 that the pedestrian had died from his injuries, officials stated.

The investigation remains ongoing.

PREVIOUSLY: Pedestrian Hospitalized Following Vehicle Collision in North Long Beach Monday Morning

4/4/16 at 2:35PM | Parts of Long Beach Boulevard in North Long Beach were shut down Monday morning by police investigating a traffic collision that sent a male pedestrian to a local hospital, authorities said.

Police responded to the traffic collision near Long Beach Boulevard and Market Street at 6:06AM on Monday, April 4, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

Officials said the incident involved a vehicle and a male adult pedestrian who was transported by paramedics to a local hospital.

The crash caused Long Beach Boulevard, between 53rd and Market streets, to close until 8:50AM, according to Arrona.

Police did not say how the crash occurred. The investigation is ongoing.

The man’s condition is unknown at this time.
