Pedestrian killed in traffic collision near CSULB, police say
A woman died after being hit by a car while she was walking in lanes of traffic near Cal State Long Beach early Monday morning, police said.
Police responded to the area of East Seventh Street and Campus Drive around 1:41 a.m. Monday and found the woman suffering from critical injuries as a result of the crash.
According to police, the woman was “walking east on Seventh Street in the eastbound lanes of traffic” when she was hit by a Long Beach man driving a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling in the same direction on Seventh Street near Campus Drive.
When the Long Beach Fire Department arrived, they declared the woman dead at the scene, police said.
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with officers during their investigation. Police say neither distracted driving, impaired driving nor speed are believed to be factors in the collision.
The identity of the victim has not been released as authorities work to notify the next of kin.
