A 71 year-old Long Beach man was killed Tuesday when he was hit by a car while attempting to cross Redondo Ave. at 11th St.

Patrol officers happened upon the scene just after the man was struck by a 2006 Lincoln Mercury heading southbound through the uncontrolled intersection at around 10AM. Witnesses said that the victim rolled over the top of the car and was lying in the middle of the road when police arrived.

The driver of the Mercury stopped to assist the victim, who died from his wounds four hours after the accident.

At this time, the victim is only being identified as a 71-year-old male resident of Long Beach pending notification of next of kin. The driver, an 89-year-old resident of Huntington Beach, was released at the scene with no charges pending.
