Several restaurants along Pine Avenue last night lent a hand to a grieving family, as they pledged to donate a portion of their proceeds to the Melody Ross Memorial Trust Account.

Restaurants such as George’s, Rock Bottom, Taco Beach, Hooters, Sevilla, Madison and many more joined in the effort to raise money after the fatal shooting that took the life of 16-year old Ross and injured two adult males shortly following a high school football game outside Wilson High School on October 30.

The shooting startled the Long Beach community, which has rallied around Ross’ parents in support of their loss. Two 16-year old males were arrested last week and charged with the murder.

The Ross family even made an appearance on Pine last night, shaking hands with restaurateurs and accepting heartfelt condolences.

“They’re just special people,” said John Morris, owner of Smooth’s. Morris met with the Ross family at their home last Saturday to plan the event.

“We had great support and it was so nice for them,” he said, explaining that he felt something should be done to assist the Ross family. “This has gotten the city’s attention, it’s really resonated with everyone.”

Proceeds will be donated to the Melody Ross Memorial Trust Account. Click here to find the donation page online or send a check to this address:
