A much-needed facelift will hit the westside 1000 block of Long Beach Boulevard in between 10th and Anaheim streets as construction has officially begun on a multi-use housing project called Urban Village aimed at young professionals.

The development at 1081 Long Beach Blvd.–coming from the AMCAL Multi-Housing and Urban Village Development Company–will feature 129 units across five stories. A variety of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments spanning 565 to 1,100 sq. ft. will be offered, with the developers boasting of its 100 foot distance from the nearest Blue Line Station as well as an adjoining five-story parking structure so “residents [have] the convenience of parking on the same floor on which they live.”

Other features include a street-level entrance which will be lined by neighborhood-serving retailers, a large interior courtyard with a custom pool/spa, edible garden, wireless access and a multitude of communal spaces, a 1,200 sq. ft. fitness facility, 1,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, and bicycle storage.

The development is expected to be completed in October of 2014.
