After a 30-day closure of the Blue Line in Long Beach from the Transit Mall to the 5th Street station, Metro has announced that for four weekends beginning next week, several stations will once again be closed so that crews can work on the line’s $1.2B overhaul.
While the main work will be done on the PCH and Anaheim stations—each will be getting a second canopy along with new lighting, paint, tiling, and an upgraded track—other stations will be affected.
“Stations comprising the downtown Long Beach loop—the 5th Street, 1st Street, Downtown Long Beach and Pacific Avenue stations—will be closed on the affected weekends,” said Metro representative Paul Gonzales. “The noisiest work will occur during daytime hours with nearby residents advised beforehand. There will be no work over the Thanksgiving weekend, November 27 through November 30.”
Part of the Blue Line’s $1.2B overhaul, weekend work will be conducted from 9PM on Friday until 5AMon Monday on these weekends:
- November 7 through November 10
- November 14 through November 17
- November 21 through November 24
- December 5 through December 8
Additionally, nighttime work from 9PM to 4AM on November 7 through December 8 will be in effect.
As during the last closure, a free shuttle bus will be offering rides beginning and ending at the Willow Station.
