A small, single-engine plane crashed just short of the runway at the Catalina Airport Sunday after departing from the Long Beach Airport, injuring two people.

The plane, a Cessna 172, crashed with three people onboard at around 4:30PM, Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) officials worked to free one individual who was trapped in the wreckage while tending to another victim who had been ejected from the aircraft. Two helicopters were deployed to help with the rescue, said the LACFD’s Ed Pickett.

The victims were flown to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, but their conditions have not been released, according to the LACFD.
