10:56am | A business jet carrying nine people made a safe emergency landing Tuesday at Long Beach Municipal Airport after its hydraulic system failed.

According to the Press-Telegram, the plane contacted the airport a few minutes before landing to report the mechanical problem just after 11 a.m.

Though the Gulfstream G150 twin turbo-engine jet contacted the air traffic control tower a second time to report steering and vertical control trouble as it circled the airport, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman told the PT that the plane was safe and on the ground by 11:15 a.m.

The plane, built by Israel Aircraft Industries, is registered with the FAA to Flying Bar B LLC in Sandy, Utah.

The Long Beach Fire Department reportedly dispatched 22 fire units to the airport as a precaution in the event that the jet was not able to safely land.

A fire department spokesman told the PT that upon landing, the jet had no brakes.

The incident occurred just six days after a fatal plane crash killed five men and seriously injured a sixth shortly after it took off from the local airport.
