Bret Michaels, who, as lead singer for the glam-rock band Poison, sold more than 40 million albums worldwide in the 1980s and 90s, will be the featured performer at this year’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach’s Saturday concert at 6 p.m. on, April 18.

The 56-year-old Michaels grew up in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and began playing music in small clubs in Pennsylvania in the late 1970s. In 1984, his band, Paris, changed its name to Poison and moved to the then-bustling Sunset Strip nightclub scene in Los Angeles and the band quickly became one of the biggest glam-rock bands in the world, behind the hit “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and a string of multi-platinum albums, including “Open Up and Say…Ahh!” and “Flesh and Blood.”

In addition to enjoying a solo career in the 2000s, with the albums “Songs of Life” in 2003 and “Freedom of Sound” in 2005,  Michaels has parlayed his music fame into a career in acting and he appeared on a number of reality and talent programs, including winning Donald Trump’s and NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice 3” in 2010.
