Authorities arrested a Los Angeles man on suspicion of murder in connection with the November death of a 19-year-old who was shot during a party, Long Beach police said Monday.
Police arrested Devon Yarbrough, 27, just after 11 a.m. Monday at a motel in Gardena and booked him on one count of murder, according to the announcement.
The victim, Shemar Alexander of Los Angeles, was shot following a fight at a party attended by 50 to 75 people, police said. Officers responded to the after-hours event at a closed clothing and crystal business, called Self Made Designers, near Artesia Boulevard and Orange Avenue in North Long Beach.
Detectives believe the shooting was the result of a gang-related dispute.
Yarbrough is being held on $2 million bail in the Long Beach City Jail. The department expects to present the case with the county District Attorney’s office later this week, LBPD said.
