Police said they arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of knocking a woman unconscious, then raping her near Downtown Long Beach.

The incident happened shortly after 2:35 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Alamitos Avenue and Fourth Street, according to Long Beach police.

A woman was walking in the area when a man approached her, “physically assaulted her, causing her to lose consciousness and sexually assaulted her,” police said.

Through the use of security camera footage, detectives identified a suspect and arrested the man around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday near Fourth Street and Cherry Avenue, police said.

The suspect, 29-year-old Alvin Marbra, was booked into Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of rape, assault with intent to rape and assault with a deadly weapon.

He was being held on $100,000 bail, according to jail records.

Marbra refused to provide a city of residence and detectives believe he was experiencing homelessness, police said.
