Police in tactical gear briefly descended on a home in Long Beach’s Willmore area where a parolee may have been holed up Tuesday morning.

Long Beach officers shut down some streets and surrounded the home at Pacific Avenue and 10th Street around 10 a.m. after state parole agents asked for help, according to Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez.

Before long, however, authorities backed off without taking anyone into custody.

A California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman said the agency couldn’t release many details on what happened, but he said the department’s Parolee Apprehension Team had been doing surveillance on a parolee who may have violated the terms of his release.

“However, the existing situation did not warrant escalating potential use of force,” spokesman Luis Patino said.

Authorities did not release the parolee’s identity, what he’s on parole for or what he’s suspected of doing that may have violated the terms of his release.

“We cannot compromise the investigation by releasing further information at this time,” Patino said.
