Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Traffic Section officers handed out more than a dozen citations and arrested two people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol during a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint conducted Saturday night, officials announced Wednesday.
The checkpoint took place on westbound Seventh Street at Locust Avenue on June 13 between 7:00PM and 3:00AM.
“Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public,” an LBPD release stated.
The checkpoint, through which 1,313 vehicles passed and 459 vehicles were screened, was aided by Long Beach Police Explorers and Long Beach Search and Rescue.
It yielded two DUI arrests and 24 driving citations for operating a vehicle without a license or while a license was suspended or revoked. Additionally, eight standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
