A man was shot in an alley near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and 10th Street shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

The condition of the victim was not immediately clear,  but he was being treated at the hospital as officers continued to investigate, said Long Beach police Lt. Eric Hooker. Police did not say if they had any suspects in custody.

The man was rushed to a local hospital by a neighbor before officers arrived at the scene, LBPD spokeswoman Daisy Paul said.

The victim is expected to survive.

Officers taped off a section of 10th Street between Olive and Myrtle avenues.

A worker at a nearby liquor store who identified himself only as Nelson said he was picking up trash when he heard about eight gunshots.

“I heard boom, boom, boom and just went hiding inside the store,” he said.

Bullet casing were located at the scene of the shooting, police said. The motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
