Long Beach police are investigating two separate shootings on Thursday night in West Long Beach.

The first shooting occurred at about 8:50 p.m. in the area of Canton Street and Webster Avenue near Stephens Middle School. Three men were struck by gunfire; one was hit in the upper torso and was in critical condition. He was transported to the hospital in a stable condition, police said.

The victims were outside when a vehicle drove by and fired multiple shots toward the group, according to police.

As police were investigating the scene, they came across the two other men who had sustained non-life threatening wounds.

Police still don’t know the motive for the shooting. Police do not have a description of the shooters nor the vehicle that was involved.

Police said gang detectives responded to the scene.

Several hours later, a second shooting took place at midnight around West Esther Street and San Francisco Avenue near Cresa Park.

Police were sent to the 900 block of West Esther Street where they found a man sitting inside his car with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower torso. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

The victim was near his vehicle talking with two other men when one of them fired into the vehicle, police said. Authorities believe a robbery prompted the shooting.

Police said one of the gunmen possibly knew the victim. No detailed description was given.

Both shootings remain under investigation.
