Long Beach police said they are investigating a stabbing near Rainbow Harbor that injured a 19-year-old man early Tuesday morning.

At around 2 a.m. Tuesday, April 13 police say they responded to a call of a stabbing in the 300 block of S. Pine Avenue. Upon arrival, officers said they discovered the 19-year-old victim suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body and he was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

Police said the victim was with a group of about six people when the suspect approached the group and stabbed the victim. Police identified the suspect as Angel Ignacio Gutierrez Benitez, a 25-year-old Compton resident, who they arrested in a nearby restaurant parking lot in the same block shortly after the incident, officials said.

The suspect, who has been booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, was being held without bail on suspicion of also violating his probation, according to police.

Police said the motive for the stabbing is unknown and the investigation is still ongoing.
