The Long Beach Police Department is searching for three gunmen who fled on foot after shooting two men in a Wrigley neighborhood alleyway Monday afternoon.

The two victims were walking in an alley in the area of 21st Street and Locust Avenue sometime before 4 p.m. when three male suspects with guns approached them and began to shoot in their direction, police said.

Police responded to the shooting in the 2100 block of Locust Avenue around 3:53 p.m. and found one of the victims suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Following the shooting, the second victim left the area, but moments later, police located him in the 800 block of East Pacific Coast Highway in East Long Beach with gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body, LBPD spokesman Richard Mejia said. He was also transported by the LBFD to a hospital and treated for his injuries, police said. He is expected to survive, according to the LBPD.

No other injuries were reported.

Police say the two men did not know each other and were walking to unrelated destinations. No other suspect information was available.

A motive was not immediately determined and the incident is under investigation, Mejia said.
