The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Thursday “a Multi-agency Major Narcotics crew seized approximately 16 tons of marijuana” at a nursery near the northern border of Long Beach.
“Law enforcement investigators served a search warrant at the Rolling Hills Nursery on Orange Ave. in Long Beach,” says a Sheriff’s Dept. press release. “The Marijuana was found in two large storage containers that were stored on the property. The estimated value of the marijuana is between $150–$300 million dollars[,] depending on the quality. Four male Hispanic suspects were arrested at the scene and subsequently transported to Lakewood Sheriff’s Station for booking.”
Citing an ongoing investigation, the Sheriff’s Dept. says that no further details are available at this time.
Late Sunday night the Long Beach Post contacted the Rolling Hills Nursery (whose website lists the nursery’s location as Paramount, not Long Beach) and reached a man identifying himself as “Esteban”—apparently either owner Esteban Villafana Sr. or Jr. (he did not clarify which)—who declined to comment on the matter, other than to say that he has an attorney and that an ongoing investigation is in process.
