A small group of Facebook friends effectively got its message across to a few thousand people Saturday morning by waving signs, American flags and banners on the Wardlow Road overpass of the 605 Freeway in east Long Beach.
“Support Judge Kavanaugh” was the main message, bolstered by Trump pennants bearing the “Make America Great Again” slogan.
The group’s efforts were greeted by a mix of cars with drivers honking their support or raising middle fingers indicating the opposite.
Getting an interview was problematic. “It’s the liberal press,” warned one woman. “Just know that whatever you tell him he’ll twist into a lie.”
Khalid Alkhalili, a shy young man from Cypress holding up an American flag and sporting an Infowars T-shirt was willing to chat for a moment. He was, presumably like the others, firmly in favor of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Speaking of Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, Alkhalili said, “When someone assaults you, you go to the authorities right away. You don’t wait 35 years.”
He also expressed disdain for an FBI investigation of the matter. “What’s the FBI gonna do? The FBI is corrupt.”
Alkhalili was with a companion at the gathering but said he didn’t know the others. “We’re just part of a Facebook group,” he said. He declined to give the name of the group.
