Long Beach is one of hundreds of cities across the nation hosting a “Nobody is above the law” rally on Tuesday demanding that Congress impeach and remove President Donald Trump.

The U.S. House of Representatives is tentatively scheduled to vote on impeachment charges Wednesday, which is akin to a criminal indictment. If approved, the Senate would then hold a trial, likely in January, to decide whether to remove Trump from office.

In a report released late Sunday, the House Judiciary Committee argues Trump abused his power to solicit personal political favors from a foreign government, and obstructed Congress in its inquiry into the matter.

Organizers of the local rally say it will be a somber event: “We do not hold this to be a happy or celebratory occasion, rather a serious and disturbing chapter in our history where we are required to take this action as a nation,” according to a press release.

The demonstration will include a candlelight vigil. Attendees will hold signs  and make speeches as well.

The rally will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Harvey Milk Promenade Park, 185 E. Third St.
