The expansion of the Port of Long Beach.  The possible diversion of the L.A. River.  The overall quality of the city’s waters and beaches.  These are some of the city’s hottest topics, and we’re going to get answers tonight at the Long Beach Junior Chamber’s monthly Beer & Politics series.

There are bound to be fireworks as Port Assistant Director of Communications Art Wong will speak alongside local restaurant owner and activist John Morris on his home turf.  The event will begin at 7:00pm on the rooftop of Morris’ Smooth’s Bar & Grille on Pine Ave.

The Port recently announced plans to break ground on a Middle Harbor project that would replace inefficient equipment and require 14,000 jobs while taking ten years to complete, and Morris’ latest crusade is an effort to redirect the flow of the Los Angeles River to enter the Port rather than Long Beach’s ocean.

The event will raise funds for the Junior Chamber, which hosts a Festival of Chefs event this weekend at the Zinsmeyer Academy, 4223 E. Anaheim Street.  Check the Beer & Politics website for more information.
