The Press-Telegram yesterday began a three-part series that highlights former Long Beach residents who have been deported to Cambodia, their native country.  Today, they continue the series by bringing us the story of the Korsang building – many of them, former gang members and criminals, live in Korsang and have transformed it into a uniquely American corner of Phnom Pehn, Cambodia.  Writes Greg Mellen:

The corner compound — from where you first feel, then hear, the bass beat of hip-hop music thrumming from a battered CD player — is a place where the Wild West meets the Far East.

Today, we meet Poly High graduate Trip, as well as former gang members Boney and KK.  In Long Beach, they were rivals.  But that was a different life.  It wasn’t easy, but the three of them have adapted to their new life.

For others, it’s been a constant struggle with depression and drug use.
