The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony of the Locust Tot Lot on Saturday, March 19 at 9:30AM, where Mayor Robert Garcia, Councilmember Dee Andrews and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works will unveil the new playground design.

“I am always excited to see additional recreational open space developed in Long Beach,” said Mayor Garcia in a statement. “The residents in the neighborhood will have a new much-needed place to play with their children and enjoy the outdoors with their neighbors.”

A play structure for two to five-year-olds, with a slide, as well as climbing and exploratory features, will be built on the 4,050-square-foot lot, formerly a vacant site. The playground will also have a swing set, safety surfacing and a series of interactive play panels. Two benches and two picnic tables connected by an ADA-accessible walkway will comprise the seating area, as well as a bike rack, trees and mulch, according to the release.

“The Locust Tot Lot will be the latest park area developed in Central Long Beach, and one that I have been working on for a while for our children to have a safe place to play,” said Andrews in a statement. “When it is completed in the fall, we will have opened or renovated more than 26 acres of parks and open space since I have been in office.”
