The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s help with information to help identify the persons responsible for a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, May 1, in the area of 57th Street and Chestnut Avenue near Deforest Park, which injured a male adult.

When officers arrived at the shooting location, they discovered that a male adult had been struck in the back by gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The investigation determined that the victim and two other individuals were in a vehicle and were being followed prior to the shooting by the suspects who were riding in a black sedan. One of the suspects then produced a handgun and fired several shots from the passenger side of the sedan and into the victim’s vehicle. The two additional occupants in the victim’s vehicle were not injured. The suspect vehicle has been described as an early 2000’s black 4-door Hyundai, similar to the one pictured in the below stock photo.

Information gathered through the course of their investigation has led detectives to believe that the suspects are gang members. A motive for the shooting is unknown and remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Gang Enforcement Detail.

Detectives have followed up on and exhausted all leads, therefore urging anyone with additional information regarding the shooting or anyone who may be able to identify the suspect vehicle to come forward. Individuals with information are asked to contact Gang Enforcement Detective Sean Magee at (562) 570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.
