Radio Talk show hosts John and Ken of KFI 640 will be in Alamitos Beach today, joining local residents in a rally against an apartment complex holding at least 12 registered sex offenders.

The actions of the neighborhood residents, and the talk show hosts, are also related to a city council agenda item put on by Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal, whose 2nd district includes the sex offender house (or “clown house”, as John and Ken put it).

Lowenthal’s council item would further restrict residency requirements of sex offenders from residing within 2,000 feet or, in case of “high risk” sex offenders, 2,500 feet from any licensed child-care facility; and, if determine to be appropriate, limit the number of registered sex offenders residing at multi-family residential dwellings.

Existing law prohibits sex offenders from residing closer than 2,000 feet from K-12 schools or parks and 2,500 feet only if they are classified as “high risk”.
