Opponents of the recently passed Proposition 8 will stage a national peaceful rally this Saturday, and a group organized by The Center Long Beach plans to demonstrate at Long Beach City Hall. The rally will begin at 10:30am this Saturday.
Fliers sent out explain that demonstrators should not bring signs with sticks attached to them, and stress that the event will be lawful and peaceful. Organizers worked in conjunction with community leaders and the LBPD to ensure that the demonstration remains peaceful.
Information on The Center’s website explains that organizers are planning a wed-in. From centerlb.org:
“WE ARE PLANNING A “WED-IN” AT THIS EVENT…wherein we will have a minister symbolically marry all those in attendance (LGBTQA) to the commitment of ensuring Marriage Equal Rights for all!!”
The website JoinTheImpact.com lists similar protests around the nation. The event is being billed as National Day of Support for California Marriage Equality.
