Later this year, Vice-Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal and Councilmember Tonia Reyes-Uranga will square off against one another in a Democratic primary to replace termed out Assemblymember Betty Karnette.  However, the 54th is one of the more competitive districts in California and whoever wins between the two Democrats will have to face off against a Republican in November.

The Republican establishment is uniting behind former Palos Verdes School Board Member and registered nurse Gabriella Holt.  The entire GOP Assembly delegation for LA County has endorsed Holt.

“I am proud to have earned the support of these Republican legislative leaders.” Said Holt. “Unlike the Democratic Party candidates for AD 54 my party is united behind my candidacy.”

“These are legislators that are looking for a colleague that will speak out against the enormous tax burden placed on California families,” said Holt. “Although we don’t agree on all the issues it is clear to me that they are interested in adding a voice to the caucus that can speak from experience on health care, public safety, and education.”

Other endorsements include the LA County Lincoln Clubs, LA County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, and numerous assembly and state senators.

Holt will be squaring off against Michael A. Jackson, who has in the past against Betty Karnette.  For more info about Jackson’s campaign, click here.
