Tomorrow, Long Beach City Councilmember Rex Richardson’s office will be launching its new initiative, the Creative Corridor Challenge, to offer residents in District Nine the chance to beautify its corridors with murals, tree planting and more. The launch will take place at the Houghton Park After-School Center at 6:30PM.
According to a release from Richardson’s office, Richardson has allocated $50,000 to support the community-driven projects, which consist of tree planting, mural installations, vacant building activation/beautification, vacant lot activation/beautification and public art and utility box beautification.
“North Long Beach has fantastic neighborhoods, but our corridors need some attention,” said Richardson in a statement. “By launching the challenge, we engage the whole community into the upkeep of our corridors. The best ideas to improve a neighborhood come from the people who live and work there.”
Richardson will be partnering with the uptown property and community association, the Squeeze Art Collective, the Arts Council for Long Beach and the City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability, the release stated.
Creative Corridor ideas can be submitted via email, if one cannot attend the launch, to [email protected] by October 31. Entrants are asked to include pictures, project description(s) and the address/cross street of their ideas within each submission.
