California State Senator Jenny Oropeza, whose district includes parts of West Long Beach, was yesterday introduced as the Democratic Caucus Chair and as a member of the Senate Rules Committee by new Senate President Pro Tem, Sen. Darrell Steinberg.
“I’m honored Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg has selected me to help him lead California as we face many difficult challenges facing the state’s economy, environment, health and transportation issues,” Oropeza said in a release.
As Democratic Caucus Chair, Oropeza will help define state policy under Steinberg, and develop policy recommendations for the Senate’s 25 Democrats. The five-member Rules Committee oversees the daily operations of the legislative house, and reviews and recommends gubernatorial appointments before the Senate votes on them.
