Memorial services have been announced for longtime community presence Don Westerland after his passing in December. He was 75 years old. Westerland was the former President and CEO of the Community Hospital of Long Beach Foundation (2001-2006), on top of many other positions and accomplishments.
The memorial will be held Friday, January 28, at 2:00pm at the Los Altos United Methodist Church at 5950 E. Willow Street. A reception will follow.
Westerland lived in Long Beach for more than 40 years, serving as the pastor of the Palo Verde Avenue Christian Church for nine years before also becoming involved with local chapters of the NAACP and Kiwanis. Westerland was also active with the Family Service of Long Beach and was a co-founder of Leadership Long Beach.
He is survived by his wife Fran, two sons and five grandchildren.
