A suspect traveling in a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy vehicle was seriously injured in North Long Beach early this morning when the car hit a sedan head-on, according to police. The driver of the sedan was also seriously hurt. All three involved were hospitalized in serious condition.
According to a release issued by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Tuesday afternoon, officers were dispatched around 12:10AM to the 6100 block of Paramount Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles.
The deputy had reportedly just made an arrest and began transporting the man back to the Sheriff’s Lakewood station, traveling south, when a northbound sedan crossed over the center median while driving on Paramount Boulevard and hit the cruiser head-on.
The Long Beach Fire Department responded and extricated the deputy from his vehicle, according to the release, before transporting the deputy, in serious condition, to a local hospital, along with the male adult prisoner and the occupant of the sedan (a 2013 Toyota Camry).
Whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision has yet to be determined, said police. Charges against the driver of the Camry are pending further investigation.
