Public safety agencies will conduct a training exercise this morning at the Lakewood Center mall, and warned nearby residents to expect loud sounds.

The training scenario was scheduled for between 6 and 9 a.m., according to city officials.

It was being conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Lakewood station, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the city’s Public Safety Department.

“Numerous sheriff’s cars, fire engines and emergency vehicles will take part in the training exercise at Lakewood Center mall, with first responders wearing full gear,” officials said. “You may see simulated smoke or hear what appears to be explosions, gunshots or loud bangs, but be assured that it is all artificial and for training purposes only, posing no danger to the public.”

The training exercise will be held in the east wing of the center, between Kay Jewelers and Ulta Beauty. Some parking lots and roadways within the mall will be closed to the public, but no public streets will be closed or affected by the training exercise.
