A man who apparently committed suicide on the Promenade near 3rd Street in Downtown Long Beach this morning has been identified as Matthew William Rivera, according to Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department. A weapon was also recovered at the scene, said Arrona, but no further details are available at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

9:35AM | A person may have committed suicide at Promenade Park in Downtown Long Beach on Monday morning, police said.
Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched to the area off Third Street and The Promenade North regarding a possible shooting call at about 9:00AM, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
“A preliminary investigation indicates a possible suicide,” she said.
