Long Beach police said Wednesday that a man who was shot on Nov. 29 near Gumbiner Park and the Museum of Latin American Art has died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Omar Akers, a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach who was homeless. Akers was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but died on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Police said Akers was in the park in the 800 block of E. Seventh St. at around 7:30 p.m. when an unknown person or people approached him and began shooting. The shooter or shooters then fled in an unknown direction before officers arrived.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, police said in a statement.
