A 43-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a firearm after he shot at someone and then barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the Washington neighborhood Monday night, police said.

Nobody was wounded in the shooting, which happened around 10 p.m., and the victim left before police arrived, but officers quickly learned that the suspected shooter had barricaded himself inside a motorhome close to the crime scene near 15th Street and Locust Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The suspect, who was identified as John Daniel Dinkins, surrendered “without incident” just as Long Beach SWAT units arrived at the scene, authorities said.

In addition to the felony assault, Dinkins was arrested on suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of body armor, the LBPD said. His bail was set at $100,000, according to police who are still investigating the shooting.
