The City Council will discuss in the coming weeks proposed legislation that requires all councilmembers to post their daily schedules online as public information, similar to a law enacted in 2007 in San Jose that requires all elected officials to post their daily calendars online in an effort to increase transparency in City government. The legislation is being proposed by Councilmember Garcia, and is co-sponsored by Councilmembers DeLong and Schipske – who was considered a pioneer when she began regularly blogging about her daily routine and opinions on her independent website gerrischipske.com a few years ago.
Garcia has posted the daily schedules of he and his staff since being elected to his position in April of this year. “We need more transparency in government, which is why I’ve made my calendar available online since my first day in office,” Garcia said in a press release. “There is technology out there that would make this process easy and convenient for both the elected official and the public.”
The Press-Telegram‘s Paul Eakins today reports that the legislation will likely be posted on the November 3 meeting agenda.
