As part of its ongoing efforts to conserve what has become arguably our most endangered resource, the Long Beach Water Department is asking that landscape sprinklers be shut off this entire week, as the National Weather Service is predicting rain tonight and throughout the day tomorrow.

The coming rain provides a chance for Long Beach to conserve water by turning off unneeded sprinkler systems.

“The rain we’ll get tonight and tomorrow will sustain our landscapes until next week,” Water Department Director of Conservation Matt Lyons stated in a release.  “We have a chance this week to save a lot of water, if we can shut down our irrigation systems.”

The release also says that following strong rains, irrigation systems can be shut down for several days and even up to a week.
