Long Beach residents have just a few more months to wait for the opening of Olympix Fitness, the upscale boutique fitness center originally slated to open this month, according to business partners Jarrett Tooley and Kurt Schneiter.

Since the Post’s visit last February, the gym located next to Chuck’s Coffee Shop in Belmont Shore has added a new ceiling, windows and yoga roof. The skeleton of the proposed gym is well-established. What comes next are mostly just finishing touches.

“It took time, because there were a few structural issues,” said Tooley. He pointed to the set of windows lining the cardio platform, which look out onto the beach and bring in the coastal breeze. “There was a beam running along these windows…”

He said they decided it was more important to open the view further and remove the beam, an example of a detail that took more time to change than expected.

However, a preview room is currently open to the public along Olympix Fitness’ entrance, showcasing aerial views of the main open-air gym and other images, of the proposed spin studio and a giant skylight running through several floors of the building.

Tooley said the family of Joan Van Blom has even donated a skull, which will be featured in the skylight area, propped against the wall and spanning the length of several stories.

Meanwhile, the gym has 200 people signed up as new members thus far, and over 80 trainer and 120 instructor applications, with most being local, according to Tooley.

Other features the gym has added include 95 percent of the cardio equipment featuring built-in screens, and a feature that can transfer the data regarding workout results onto a person’s wearable, such as a fitbit. A spin studio will also feature a television screen, allowing individuals to work out with a virtual instructor between scheduled group classes. That, plus accessibility to full-time trainers and small-group fitness classes, along with state-of-the-art equipment and building aesthetics are elements Schneiter says will put Olympix Fitness in a class unto its own.

“We don’t want to be the biggest gym,” said Schneiter. “We want to be a boutique fitness studio where you can get in and get out, and see results.”

The most popular membership is running about $90 a month, according to Tooley, although adding features can mean a change in price variable.
