Service to Sacramento will be offered twice daily, in each direction, seven days a week, said Brad Hawkins, spokesman for Southwest Airlines. The new flights are made possible by two permanent slot pairings. 

The airline received two permanent flight slots earlier this month, but hadn’t announced the destination until this week.

 

“We don’t have any other announcements currently planned, but we are always looking to match flights with demand,” Dan Landson said, spokesman for Southwest Airlines, when asked if any other cities would be added in the near future.

Currently, Southwest offers service to and from Oakland four times daily, and on a day by day basis, additional flights to Las Vegas, which are offered on weekends depending on availability of unused slots, according to Hawkins. 

“We’re doing a lot of work with the City to make use of any slots that other carriers are either squatting on or not giving back – as California’s largest airline has a lot of demand for service from our five LA Basin airports and the four we serve in the Bay/Capital,” Hawkins added.
