The two big political stories of the week both involve well respected men in the community….Nick Sramek and Tony Batts.

Planning Commissioner and Westside resident Nick Sramek was selected by Mayor Foster to serve as the new Harbor Commissioner. Sramek is a long-time community leader with a well established political family. His wife Patti serves as a field deputy for Councilmember Reyes-Uranga and his daughter Bridget is Councilmember O’Donnell’s Chief of Staff. Sramek replaces John Hancock.

And of course, unless you were under a rock this week, you heard that Police Chief Tony Batts was selected to serve as Interim City Manager. Current interim City Manager Christine Shippey, who stepped in for Jerry Miller when he retired, was removed by the Mayor and the Council because she is a candidate for the permanent position.
