Long Beach police are investigating after a man showed up at a local hospital with stab wounds to his upper body on Thursday night, officials said.

Police were called to the hospital just after 9 p.m. about an alleged stabbing, police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said. The victim, a man, was in stable condition when he told officers he was stabbed near Chestnut Avenue and 5th Street.

They were able to find evidence of a stabbing in the area, but Chavarria said they could not provide details on what that evidence was.

Police do not yet have information on a suspect or a possible motive, but they are still investigating, she said.
