UPDATED 6:52PM | Police have identified the in-custody murder suspect as 36 year-old Benjamin Elpuz of Long Beach and say that Elpuz and the victim were roommates at the residence where the shooting occurred. According to investigators, the two had an argument that escalated and Elpuz shot the victim.

Elpuz was located at a residence in the 6800 block of Myrtle Avenue (not Lewis Ave. as preliminary reports stated) and was arrested without incident at 11:27PM Sunday night. He has been booked for murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

ORIGINAL 11:20AM | Within hours of a Westside shooting that left one man dead Sunday night, police say they arrested the man they believe is responsible.

At 8:40PM Sunday, a shooting was reported in the 3100 block of Easy Ave., said Long Beach Police Department Sgt. David Marander. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooter fled the scene, but police received information regarding his wherabouts and arrested the suspect without incident a few hours later in the 6800 block of Lewis Ave.

Neither the victim nor the suspect’s identities are being released. We will update this story with more information as we receive it.
