An 18-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence escaped from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department custody while getting treatment at a hospital Monday night before being recaptured in Long Beach several hours later, authorities said.

Nathan Vigil was taken into custody Monday in connection to a domestic violence incident, said Lt. Evelyn Vega with the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station.

Following his arrest, Vigil, who faced minor injuries during the alleged incident of domestic violence, was transported to Lakewood Regional Medical Center for treatment, Vega said.

There, at around 11:44 p.m., a handcuffed Vigil fled the emergency triage area on foot, Vega said.

Deputies searched for Vigil into the early hours of Tuesday morning before locating and capturing him around 4 a.m. at Walmart across the street from the hospital, authorities said.
