The Long Beach Police Department today is reporting that 18-year old Pablo Marquez of Long Beach was gunned down last night in the 1800 block of Henderson Avenue, sustaining a gunshot wound to the upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department pronounced Marquez dead at the scene. Officers arrived to find Marquez lying on the sidewalk after receiving calls of gunshots in the area, around 11:12pm Wednesday night.
Few details are available at the moment and the investigation is ongoing. There are currently no suspects.
Sadly, the incident comes just a few days after a Los Angeles Times article highlighting the resurgence of Henderson Avenue after a crime-ridden apartment building was replaced with a community garden. The garden was seen as a victory over violence that plagued the area for years.
