A Thanksgiving dinner quickly turned dangerous for a Long Beach family Thursday evening when a fire broke out at their home, causing them to be displaced, authorities said.
Long Beach fire units responded to the 6200 block of Cordoba Court at 5:55PM on Thursday, November 26, and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof and surrounding chimney area, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD).
The residents were hosting family and friends for Thanksgiving dinner when they smelled smoke, officials said. Nearby residents also knocked on their door and alerted them of the heavy smoke coming from the roof.
The occupants then exited the home and called the fire department.
Officials said the fire started in the chimney and traveled through the walls and up into the attic.
A second alarm was requested for additional manpower based on the extent of the fire. Extra truck and engine company operations were required to prevent further damage to the home, officials stated. 
Firefighters knocked down the fire at 6:32PM.
The displaced family has received additional support from other family members.
Authorities are investigating the specific cause of the fire.
