12:45p | The LGBT Center in Long Beach continues celebrating their 30th anniversary with a “Beach Bash” on Saturday.

Founded in 1980, the Center began as informal meetings held by gays and lesbians in their living rooms who had no place to socialize, get support and obtain services in a safe environment. The meetings grew and evolved and were incorporated as One in Long Beach. One in Long Beach was, in many instances, the only safe haven where people of all sexual orientations, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic levels could receive HIV information, testing and counseling, healthcare referrals and other support services. Today the Center provides programs, HIV testing and services, as well as education and resources. At least 30 groups hold regular meetings at the Center.

The Beach Bash Celebration kicked off with Happy Hour at 5pm, refreshments at sunset, followed by a barbecue dinner. There will be dancing with DJ Mark Bisson, drawings and fun around the fire pits. Co-sponsors include Long Beach Pride, Interval House, Bud Light and Columbia Crest.
