City council candidates, incumbent Dee Andrews and challenger Ahmed Saafir, understand that job creation and job retention are the most important issues facing the sixth district. Jobs! Not crime, not traffic, not pot holes, not education…but good old jobs.

Give a community access to a vibrant business community that produces more jobs and you all but guarantee an increase in city revenues to: hire more police to fight crime, improve traffic flow, fix pot holes, and improve education. It is refreshing to hear the call for job creation from these two candidates.

To that end, one of the many answers to this call are the services provided by the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network. This Network works hard every day to fix the challenges of increasing job opportunities. I urge our leaders in the sixth district to work with the Network.

The Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network is one of, if not THE best in the country. I happen to be a board member and applaud its leaders, Executive Director Bryan Rogers and Board Chair Sandy King of Miller Children’s Hospital for their efforts.

The network provides a “one-stop” concept whereby job seekers and businesses receive core services. Job seekers benefit from various employment and training services, including information about and access to a wide array of job training, education, and employment services. Employers benefit through access to business services designed to meet their current and emerging workforce challenges and numerous sector-based industry initiatives.
