California has long been considered a home-field advantage for Democrats at both the local and national level, with the State Legislature having a supermajority of Democratic officeholders. Long Beach has just one registered Republican on the nine-member City Council.

However, fundraising for the upcoming presidential election shows that President Donald Trump, a Republican, has claimed a large chunk of fundraising in the state, including in large cities like Long Beach.

Fundraising figures reported by the Los Angeles Times Thursday showed that while former Vice President Joe Biden holds an overall lead in California when it comes to donations, President Trump is not far behind: Biden has raised a total of $105.5 million in the state to Trump’s $61.1 million. Those figures include donations made to both candidate’s main presidential accounts as well as political action committees tied to their election efforts.

The data taken from the Federal Election Commission when broken down by ZIP code shows that Trump raised more money than Biden in a majority of areas of Long Beach and Signal Hill.

Trump got his largest haul of donor money ($326,076) from the 90803 ZIP code, which includes Naples and Belmont Shore. That was boosted by a $250,000 donation from Janice Dickson, a homemaker who is married to Mark Dickson, an executive with Astro Aluminum.

Mark Dickson made a separate $250,000 donation from an address in South Gate, the city where Astro Aluminum is located, according to the Times data.

Biden received his larger donor contributions ($62,286) from the 90815 ZIP code, which includes the areas just east of Signal Hill and north of Cal Sate Long Beach. Biden held an edge in fundraising in just five of the city’s 13 ZIP codes, with one of those being the area where the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Hospital is located. He received $500 from that ZIP code.

Nationally, Biden has raised about $540 million while Trump has raised about $476 million.
