Tom Modica

Tom, Director of Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives for the City of Long Beach, does not have a simple job. After all, he leads the City’s local, state, and federal government relations, coordinates the City’s communications and strategic messaging, and is responsible for regional strategic initiatives. And if the city administration chatter doesn’t impress you, he’s also a dad of two and holds his masters from the University of Arizona.

Tom started with the City in 2002 as a Management Assistant, having served in four different positions in the City Manager’s office. During his tenure with the City, he played key roles in creating and implementing the City’s Three-Year Financial Strategic Plan and subsequent budgets to reduce its structural deficit by over $188 million since 2004. He’s even had his hand in managing the Breakwater Reconnaissance study as well as coordinating and overseeing the City’s efforts to secure over $120 million in Stimulus dollars.
