7:00am | Long Beach residents, businesses, and even buildings will turn RED tonight to support the fight against AIDS. Landmark structures like the Queen Mary, Pine Avenue and THUMS islands will be illuminated in a red glow to commemorate World AIDS Day and raise proceeds for research and care services.
A rally will begin at the Terrace Theater fountains at 5:30pm tonight, led by Mayor Bob Foster. The first 500 rally attendees will receive free admission to the 8:30pm after-party at SIP at the Renaissance Hotel. At the conclusion of the rally, Mayor Foster will signal the city to go red, casting color across the city.
Seventeen downtown restaurants are also participating by donating portions of their proceeds that night to four local non-profit organizations: the Long Beach AIDS Foundation, the Wells House Hospice Foundation, The Center HIV Counseling and Testing Program, and the Long Beach C.A.R.E. Program.
The event is supported by the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA).
